Tayla started climbing at 8 years old and entered her first competition at age 9. Since that first competition she has not looked back, entering and winning her first national competition on her 10th birthday. Tayla has been regularly competing in, and winning, both regional and national events ever since, and in 2009 won both the National Cup series and National Championships for her age group, and was 2nd in the Oceania Championships.
